The Glasgow Atlanteans
Anyone over about twenty years old who traversed the fine city by bus has a fair chance of having travelled on one of the 'Glasgow Atlanteans'. These buses were instantly recognisable by the curves at the back and front of their roofs. They also had a memorable rocking sensation when idling at a bus stop.
Glasgow Corporation was the forerunner of Glasgow City Council and had responsibility to provide bus services within the city from the time when the trams were abandonned. Amongst other vehicles, the city purchased about 1500 of these buses. Andrew MacCormack's book on the subject is both informative and nostalgic, being interesting without being too 'Geeky' Click on the picture below to buy a copy from Amazon UK.
